DARPA funds limb regeneration study
WPI was awarded a contract from DARPA to extend its research into tissue regeneration. CellThera/WPI team will try to reprogram and engineer cells to replace damaged skeletal muscle and to restore the normal function of that muscle.

Where’s the holodeck?
A computer interaction based on the technology behind Wolfram Alpha is purported to make possible a computer that can dircetly answer your questions (as opposed to just relevant search results)…at least for “factual” questions.

Space Studies Board
The input cutoff has past (Jan 30), but it will be interesting to see what comes of the Space Studies Board. They are aggregating input on the civilian space program to propose future policies.
Vision for Humans in Space
A forward look at the important area of human space exploration. The “Future of Human Spaceflight” was writtent by a team of scientsts led by MIT researchers. A full copy of the report is available from MIT.
Can’t have too many robots.
The EU-sponsored I-SWARM project is looking at the possibility of using small robots functioning in a cooperative swarm to provide repair support to Mars missions (as well as others). The idea is to compensate for harsh conditions with high-redundancy and task distribution.
